Herbert Clark Hoover was the 31st president of the United States, serving from 1929 to 1933. Hoover's term as president was dominated by the Great Depression, which his attempts to alleviate proved unpopular with the American people. As a result, he lost reelection to Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1932 United States presidential election.
