A lo-fi bedroom recording pioneer who built a fiercely devoted following with his raw, emotionally dense songwriting before conquering the indie rock mainstream.
Will Toledo didn't wait for permission. While studying at the College of William & Mary, he began uploading albums to Bandcamp under the name Car Seat Headrest, a moniker born from recording vocals in his car for privacy. These early releases were sprawling, DIY affairs—cathartic bursts of guitar, drum machine, and hyper-literate angst that captured the specific loneliness of the internet age. His breakthrough came when the indie label Matador Records re-released his 2011 album 'Twin Fantasy,' a move that transformed a cult artifact into a modern rock landmark. Toledo's success proved that an artist could bypass traditional industry gatekeepers, building a world from his bedroom that was messy, ambitious, and deeply resonant with a generation.

The first digital natives. Grew up with the internet, came of age during 9/11 and the 2008 crash. Highly educated, deeply indebted, slower to marry and buy houses. Redefined work, identity, and what it means to be an adult.
Will was born in 1992, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.

“I think the best art comes from a place of trying to figure something out for yourself, and then other people can see that process and relate to it.”
