A physically gifted NFL cornerback whose career was marked by high-level play and an unforgettable, mid-game retirement that stunned the sports world.
Vontae Davis was selected in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. At the University of Illinois, he developed into a standout cornerback before transitioning to the professional level. After three seasons in Miami, the Dolphins traded Davis to the Indianapolis Colts in 2012. With the Colts, he refined his coverage technique, using speed and instincts to shadow opposing receivers. The league recognized his performance with Pro Bowl selections in 2014 and 2015. His career ended in a single, unprecedented act. During halftime of a 2018 Buffalo Bills game, Davis removed his jersey, walked off the field, and retired. He stated that his body could no longer meet the demands of professional football. That decision defined his career more than any interception or tackle. Davis walked away on his own terms, and the football world has not seen another retirement quite like it. He was found deceased in 2024 at the age of 36.

The first digital natives. Grew up with the internet, came of age during 9/11 and the 2008 crash. Highly educated, deeply indebted, slower to marry and buy houses. Redefined work, identity, and what it means to be an adult.
Vontae was born in 1988, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
