The Northern Irish guitarist who laid down the immortal riffs for Dio's 'Holy Diver' before anchoring Def Leppard's sound for three decades.
Vivian Campbell's guitar tone is a slice of hard rock history, forged in Belfast and amplified across the world. As a teenager, he cut his teeth in the NWOBHM-influenced Sweet Savage before getting the call that would define an era: joining Ronnie James Dio's new band in 1982. His playing on albums like 'Holy Diver' and 'The Last in Line' provided a razor-sharp, melodic counterpoint to Dio's mythic vocals, creating anthems that defined 80s metal. In a surprising career pivot, he joined Def Leppard in 1992 following Steve Clark's death, seamlessly integrating into a band with a vastly different sonic palette. With Leppard, he evolved into a versatile and reliable stage presence, contributing to their enduring stadium-filling success. Beyond these pillars, he's led side projects like Riverdogs and, after a Hodgkin's lymphoma diagnosis in 2013, channeled his experience into his music with a renewed intensity.

Vivian was born in 1962, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
