A hard-nosed forward who anchored the St George Illawarra Dragons' 2010 premiership win with his relentless work in the middle.
Trent Merrin emerged from the New South Wales south coast as a classic rugby league prototype: a tough, no-frills forward built for the grind. His career, spent primarily with the St George Illawarra Dragons and later the Penrith Panthers, was defined by durability and a high work rate. Merrin wasn't the flashiest player on the field, but coaches valued his consistency in making tackles and hitting the ball up into defensive lines. His crowning moment came early, as a key contributor off the bench in the Dragons' 2010 NRL Grand Final victory, a win that ended a 31-year premiership drought for the joint venture. He also earned selection for New South Wales in State of Origin, the sport's most intense arena, and represented Australia, proving his quality on the biggest stages. After over 250 NRL games, Merrin retired having embodied the blue-collar spirit that defines the sport's engine room.

Trent was born in 1989, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
