A Scottish jazz force who forged a unique sonic language from the Highlands, blending folk influences with explosive improvisation.
Hailing from Edinburgh, Tommy Smith emerged as a prodigy, picking up the saxophone at twelve and turning professional just a few years later. His raw talent caught the ear of American jazz great Gary Burton, who brought him to the prestigious Berklee College of Music, launching an international career. Smith returned to Scotland not as an expat star but as a foundational figure, establishing the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra and later creating his own record label, Spartacus Records. His compositions are deeply tied to the landscape and lore of his homeland, resulting in ambitious works like 'Modern Jacobite' and 'Emigrant Suite'. As an educator, he founded and directs the internationally respected Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra, ensuring the next generation has the tools he had to build a vibrant, local jazz scene. His sound is powerful and lyrical, a bridge between American tradition and Celtic soul.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Tommy was born in 1967, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
