An Austrian climbing specialist whose career was defined by gritty performances in the mountains of grand tours, often in support of team leaders.
Thomas Rohregger embodied the classic domestique, a rider whose strength in the high mountains was a crucial asset for his team leaders. Hailing from Innsbruck, he turned professional in 2005 and quickly established himself as a reliable climber. His career took him through Austrian team Elk Haus–Simplon to the German ProTour squad Team Milram, and finally to the RadioShack–Leopard super-team. Rohregger's job was rarely to chase personal glory but to shepherd his captains up the steepest ascents, sacrificing his own energy to position them for success. His best personal result was a stage win at the 2008 Österreich-Rundfahrt, a victory on home roads. After retiring in 2013, he left a legacy as a selfless and tough rider who thrived when the road tilted upward.

Thomas was born in 1982, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
