A master tactician from the former Yugoslavia, he orchestrated stunning underdog victories to claim European basketball's highest crowns as both player and coach.
Svetislav Pešić's basketball life is a chronicle of strategic brilliance and defying expectations. As a player, he was a smart, physical guard who understood the game's geometry, but his true genius emerged on the sideline. His coaching career became a masterclass in preparation, turning solid teams into champions through meticulous defensive schemes and offensive patience. He achieved the rare feat of winning the EuroLeague as a coach with two different clubs from two different countries, FC Barcelona and Virtus Bologna, each time overcoming more fancied opponents. Pešić also steered the German national team, a perennial underachiever, to a shocking gold medal at the 1993 European Championship, a victory that reshaped the country's basketball identity. Even into his seventies, he commanded respect in the tough German Bundesliga with Bayern Munich, his intense demeanor and sharp mind remaining formidable assets.

Svetislav was born in 1949, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
