A Turkish poet and storyteller who built a whimsical museum to remind adults of the wonder and innocence of childhood.
Sunay Akın emerged from the Black Sea city of Trabzon to become a distinctive voice in Turkish arts, weaving together poetry, journalism, and television with a historian's curiosity. His work, often laced with subtle social commentary and a deep affection for Istanbul, transcends simple categorization. While his written verse and sharp television presentations earned him a loyal following, his most tangible legacy is the Istanbul Toy Museum, a passion project he opened in 2005. Housed in a historic wooden mansion, the museum is less a display of playthings and more a narrative about cultural memory, painstakingly built from his personal collection of antique toys gathered from over forty countries. This act transformed him from a popular figure into a cultural architect, creating a space where history is told through the eyes of a child.

The largest generation in history at the time. Shaped by postwar prosperity, the Vietnam War, the sexual revolution, and Watergate. They questioned every institution their parents built — then ran them.
Sunay was born in 1962, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
