A versatile Ukrainian footballer whose career as a dedicated defender and promising manager was tragically cut short.
Serhiy Zakarlyuka carved out a respected career in Ukrainian football, primarily as a solid and reliable defender. Born in 1976, he spent the bulk of his playing days with FC Dynamo Kyiv, where he was part of a dominant squad that collected numerous domestic titles. His understanding of the game and leadership on the pitch naturally led him into management after his retirement in 2009. He took the helm at FC Sevastopol, showing early promise in guiding the team. His life and burgeoning managerial career ended abruptly in 2014 when he was killed during the conflict in eastern Ukraine, a loss deeply felt within the football community.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Serhiy was born in 1976, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
