Biography
Santino Marella burst onto the WWE scene not from the developmental system, but from the crowd itself, 'chosen' as a 'fan' to fight in Milan in 2007. This audacious debut set the tone for Anthony Carelli's unforgettable character: a self-serious, melodramatic Italian with a hilariously fragile ego. Behind the accent and the cobra-striking sock puppet was a supremely gifted athlete, a legitimate judoka and mixed martial artist. He weaponized his physical skills for comedy, holding the Intercontinental Championship and even coming within seconds of winning the World Heavyweight Title in a classic Royal Rumble moment.
