A French basketball pillar whose defensive grit and leadership powered Limoges CSP to domestic dominance and a historic European crown.
Richard Dacoury was the beating heart and defensive soul of the Limoges CSP dynasty that ruled French basketball in the 1980s and 90s. While not always the top scorer, his impact was immeasurable; a fierce competitor known for relentless defense, clutch plays, and an unshakeable will to win. His loyalty to Limoges was rare, spending his entire 17-year professional career with the club, a commitment that forged a deep bond with the city's fans. The pinnacle came in 1993 when Dacoury, as captain, led Limoges to an against-all-odds victory in the European Cup, defeating a star-studded Benetton Treviso to become the first and only French club to win Europe's top prize. His legacy is etched in the nine French league titles he collected, a record at his retirement, and in his retired number 7 jersey hanging from the rafters.

Richard was born in 1959, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
