A Welsh actor whose lanky frame and electric presence have brought to life everything from lovable slobs to sinister villains.
Rhys Ifans emerged from the Welsh valleys with a raw, unpredictable energy that defied typical leading-man conventions. Born Rhys Owain Evans in 1967, he first grabbed attention as the scruffy, hilarious housemate Spike in 'Notting Hill', a role that made him an instant symbol of bohemian chaos. But that was merely the opening act. Ifans has consistently chosen parts that subvert expectation, moving from the tortured intensity of 'Enduring Love' to the comic wizardry of Xenophilius Lovegood in the Harry Potter series. His physical transformation into the monstrous Lizard in 'The Amazing Spider-Man' and a chillingly eccentric Rasputin in 'The King's Man' showcase a performer willing to disappear completely into his roles, building a career on charismatic strangeness rather than straightforward heroism.
1965–1980
The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Rhys was born in 1967, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
