A Brazilian midfielder whose boundless energy and crucial goals, including a stunning chip at Camp Nou, propelled Chelsea to their first Champions League title.
Ramires Santos do Nascimento emerged from the Brazilian league, his dynamism catching the eye of European scouts after a standout season with Cruzeiro. Benfica brought him to Portugal, where his box-to-box prowess quickly made him a fan favorite. His real legacy, however, was forged in the blue of Chelsea. Signed in 2010, he became the engine of their midfield, a player whose relentless running covered every blade of grass. His career-defining moment came in the 2012 Champions League semi-final against Barcelona: with Chelsea down to ten men and trailing, he collected a Frank Lampard pass and lofted an audacious, perfect chip over Victor Valdés, a goal that sent the London club to the final they would win. After a successful spell in China, he retired as a player whose work rate and big-game temperament left an indelible mark on a golden era for Chelsea.
