A Greek bassist and composer who weaves the intricate melodies of the Mediterranean and the rhythms of the Balkans into a fresh, global jazz tapestry.
Petros Klampanis hears the world differently. Growing up on the Greek island of Zakynthos, the sounds of the sea, folk melodies, and Byzantine chant were his first music. When he discovered the double bass, it became his vessel to sail these ancient sounds into new waters. After formal studies in the Netherlands and New York, Klampanis didn't just join the jazz scene; he began to reshape it from within. His compositions are cinematic and deeply personal, where the pulse of a *tsifteteli* rhythm might underpin a sophisticated harmonic progression. He founded his own label, PKmusik, to maintain artistic control and showcase a collective of like-minded explorers. On stage, he is both anchor and architect, his bass lines providing a lush foundation while his arrangements tell stories that feel both intimately Greek and expansively universal.
1981–1996
The first digital natives. Grew up with the internet, came of age during 9/11 and the 2008 crash. Highly educated, deeply indebted, slower to marry and buy houses. Redefined work, identity, and what it means to be an adult.
Petros was born in 1981, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
