A fierce midfield general for the US national team who translated his combative playing style into a respected coaching career in Major League Soccer.
Pablo Mastroeni brought an Argentine-born intensity to the heart of American soccer for over a decade. His playing career was defined by a relentless, tough-tackling presence in midfield, first with the Miami Fusion and then as the longtime captain of the Colorado Rapids. He was the engine room for the US Men's National Team, earning 65 caps and starting in the memorable 2002 World Cup run. That same gritty, tactical intelligence now defines his coaching. After cutting his teeth as an assistant, he took the helm in Colorado before moving to Real Salt Lake. There, he has built teams known for their defensive organization and collective spirit, proving his deep understanding of the game extends far beyond the tackle.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Pablo was born in 1976, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
