As Hitler's Minister of Justice, he perverted the legal system into a tool of Nazi terror, directly orchestrating the murder of thousands.
Otto Georg Thierack’s story is a chilling case study in how a legal career can be twisted to serve genocide. A veteran of World War I and a early Nazi Party member, he rose through the ranks of the judiciary in Saxony, earning a reputation for harsh, ideologically driven judgments. His true infamy began in 1942 when Hitler appointed him Reich Minister of Justice. Thierack zealously 'Nazified' the courts, but his most direct crime was an agreement with Himmler to transfer 'asocial' prisoners—Jews, Roma, Poles, and others—from the judicial system to the SS for 'extermination through labor.' This formal handover sentenced tens of thousands to death in concentration camps. Captured after the war, he died by suicide in his cell at Nuremberg before he could stand trial, leaving a legacy of legal scholarship utterly corrupted by fanaticism.
