A Japanese figure skater whose explosive jumping ability and technical brilliance made him a fan favorite and a consistent Grand Prix force.
Nobunari Oda brought a potent mix of athleticism and heritage to the ice. As a direct descendant of the famed 16th-century warlord Oda Nobunaga, he carved his own legacy through quadruple jumps and polished artistry. Rising through the ranks, he claimed the World Junior title in 2005. His senior career was marked by spectacular highs and challenging inconsistencies. Oda became a mainstay on the Grand Prix circuit, landing on the Final podium four times, and captured the Japanese national championship in 2008. His signature move was a remarkably high and stable quadruple toe loop. While Olympic and World Championship medals eluded him, his performances, like his victory at the 2006 Four Continents Championships, showcased a skater capable of beating the very best. His career, punctuated by a temporary suspension for a traffic violation involving alcohol and subsequent comeback, demonstrated resilience and a deep love for the sport.

Nobunari was born in 1987, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
