Biography

Ningning, born Ning Yizhuo in 2002, grew up in Harbin, China, with a dream of performing. Her journey to stardom began when she was selected as a trainee by SM Entertainment, one of South Korea's most competitive talent agencies, after a successful audition in 2016. For four years, she honed her skills in singing and dancing, preparing for a debut that would place her at the forefront of a new musical concept. In 2020, she was introduced as the main vocalist of aespa, a group built around a unique narrative blending reality and a virtual AI universe. As the only Chinese member, Ningning carries a significant role, not only delivering the group's most challenging high notes but also acting as a key connection to a massive fanbase in her home country. Her vocal agility and confident performances have made her an indispensable part of aespa's identity, marking her as a standout foreign artist in the rigorous K-pop industry.

Generation Z

1997–2012

Born into smartphones, social media, and school shootings. The most diverse generation in history. Pragmatic about money, fluid about identity, anxious about the climate. They do not remember a world before the internet.

Ningning was born in 2002, placing them squarely in the Generation Z. The events that shaped this generation — social media, climate anxiety, and a pandemic — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
