A pioneering female rapper in K-pop who helped shape the genre's sound with her sharp, technical flow and behind-the-scenes songwriting.
Long before female rappers became commonplace in K-pop, Miryo was establishing the blueprint. Debuting in the early 2000s with the co-ed hip-hop group Honey Family, she quickly stood out for her authentic, aggressive style in a male-dominated scene. Her true platform came as the main rapper for Brown Eyed Girls, a group celebrated for its sophisticated, often daring, musical concepts. Miryo’s verses provided a crucial, gritty counterpoint to the group’s melodic vocals, adding depth and attitude to hits like 'Abracadabra' and 'Sixth Sense'. Beyond performing, she built a formidable reputation as a songwriter and producer, contributing to her group’s albums and mentoring contestants on the rap competition show 'Show Me the Money'. Her 2012 solo album 'MIRYO aka JOHONEY' allowed her to fully showcase her hip-hop roots, cementing her status as a respected architect of Korean hip-hop within the idol system.

Miryo was born in 1981, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
