A hulking Finnish winger with sublime hands whose scoring prowess formed one half of the NHL's most devastating offensive partnership for nearly a decade.
Mikko Rantanen arrived in Colorado as a lanky teenager drafted tenth overall, a project with obvious skill but an uncertain timeline. What followed was a rapid evolution into one of the league's most dominant power forwards. Standing well over six feet tall, 'The Moose' combined surprising agility with brute strength, protecting the puck with a long reach that made him nearly impossible to dispossess. His chemistry with center Nathan MacKinnon became the engine of the Avalanche's ascent; Rantanen was the perfect foil, a playmaking finisher who consistently hovered near the top of the league's scoring lists. The partnership culminated in the 2022 Stanley Cup, where Rantanen's 25 playoff points were essential. After defining an era in Denver, his move to the Dallas Stars in 2025 signaled a new chapter, bringing his elite, championship-tested game to a hungry contender.
