A loyal and efficient striker who became a club legend for Athletic Bilbao's reserves before transitioning into coaching in Spain's lower tiers.
Mikel Arruabarrena's story is one of unwavering loyalty and prolific scoring at a specific, cherished level of Spanish football. A product of Real Sociedad's youth academy, the striker found his true home not in La Liga, but with Bilbao Athletic, the reserve team of Athletic Club. While he had brief first-team spells with Osasuna and Real Sociedad, his legacy was built in the Segunda División B (now Primera Federación). For Bilbao Athletic, he was more than a player; he was a leader and a goal machine, becoming the team's all-time top scorer. His game was defined by intelligent movement, a sharp finish, and a deep understanding of the club's philosophy. Arruabarrena's commitment was so profound that he spent the vast majority of his 15-year professional career within the Athletic Club organization, embodying the spirit of a 'one-club man' for the reserve side. Upon hanging up his boots, he moved directly into management, starting with the youth teams of his beloved club before taking the helm at SD Beasain, aiming to impart his knowledge and dedication to a new generation.
