A Detroit-born poet of pop who transformed personal grief and a cross-country walk into introspective anthems of resilience.
Mike Posner emerged as a slick, synth-pop hitmaker with 2010's "Cooler Than Me," but his artistic journey has been one of profound reinvention. The son of a lawyer and a teacher from Detroit, he studied at Duke University while crafting beats and songs, eventually landing a major label deal. Initial success gave way to a period of searching, leading him to write for others and explore deeper themes. His 2016 album 'At Night, Alone.' and the smash "I Took a Pill in Ibiza" (in its remixed form) revealed a vulnerable songwriter beneath the pop exterior. After the death of his father, Posner embarked on a literal and metaphorical journey, walking across the United States. This pilgrimage fueled his later work, including the Grammy-nominated song "Look What I've Become," cementing his evolution from pop sensation to a thoughtful, resilient voice processing life's trials through music.
