A commanding actor who brought bulletproof charisma to Marvel's Luke Cage, forging a new archetype of a thoughtful, community-minded superhero.
Mike Colter played Marvel's first black superhero to headline a television series, Luke Cage. A South Carolina native with an MFA from Rutgers, he built his career on supporting roles, notably as drug kingpin Lemond Bishop on 'The Good Wife.' His physical presence and ability to convey deep interiority caught casting directors' attention. As Luke Cage, he infused the character with burden, morality, and connection to Harlem, reshaping the superhero genre into something more soulful and socially conscious. He later played faith-troubled journalist David Acosta on 'Evil,' proving his range extends beyond physical roles.
1965–1980
The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Mike was born in 1976, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
