A pioneering figure in Greek hip-hop, leading the group Stavento to fuse rap with traditional sounds and dominate the local music scene.
Michalis Kouinelis, known as Stavento or METH, is the dynamic engine of one of Greece's most influential hip-hop acts. Emerging in the early 2000s, he and his partner in Stavento, Vladimiros Sofianidis, forged a new sound by weaving traditional Greek melodies and instruments into hard-hitting rap beats. This fusion captured the spirit of a generation, producing anthems that resonated far beyond typical hip-hop audiences. As a frontman, Kouinelis's raspy, charged delivery and thoughtful, often socially conscious lyrics gave the music its edge and heart. Stavento's consistent chart success and massive live shows cemented them as pillars of modern Greek pop culture, with Kouinelis's voice serving as a defining element of the country's musical identity for over two decades.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Michalis was born in 1979, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
