A compact, fiercely technical sumotori who climbed the ranks using his birth name, defying tradition to become a top-rank stalwart.
Meisei Chikara debuted in sumo's top makuuchi division in 2018, rising steadily from Kagoshima. He insisted on competing under his given name, Chikara, meaning 'strength,' unlike virtually all peers. His style relies on strategic agility, sharp pushing and thrusting techniques, and an ability to destabilize larger opponents rather than overwhelming mass. He won his first tournament championship (yusho) in the second-highest juryo division and has consistently held the rank of sekiwake. In the clay ring, his cerebral force proves as effective as brute power.

The first digital natives. Grew up with the internet, came of age during 9/11 and the 2008 crash. Highly educated, deeply indebted, slower to marry and buy houses. Redefined work, identity, and what it means to be an adult.
Meisei was born in 1995, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
