A Tanzanian trailblazer who became the first player from his nation to score in the UEFA Champions League.
Mbwana Samatta is more than a footballer in Tanzania; he is a national icon who carved a path for others to follow. His goal-scoring exploits with TP Mazembe in the Democratic Republic of Congo made him a continental star, winning the CAF Champions League and being named African Player of the Year based in Africa. His historic move to Genk in Belgium saw him break new ground, becoming the first Tanzanian to play in the Belgian top flight and, memorably, the first to score in the Champions League group stages. A subsequent stint at Aston Villa brought him to the Premier League, another first for his country. Now leading the national team as captain, Samatta's career is a testament to ambition, opening doors and inspiring a generation of East African footballers to dream bigger.

The first digital natives. Grew up with the internet, came of age during 9/11 and the 2008 crash. Highly educated, deeply indebted, slower to marry and buy houses. Redefined work, identity, and what it means to be an adult.
Mbwana was born in 1992, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
