A charismatic, barrel-chested hooker whose powerful runs and reliable goal-kicking made him a cult hero at every club he played for.
Mark Riddell played rugby league with a distinctive, almost old-school physicality that endeared him to fans. Nicknamed 'Piggy' for his robust frame and tenacious style, he was far more than just a battering ram out of dummy-half. Riddell possessed a deceptively soft pair of hands, a sharp short kicking game, and was one of the most accurate goal-kickers of his era, often serving as his team's primary point-scorer. He debuted for St. George Illawarra but found his greatest fame at the Parramatta Eels, where his combination with halfback Tim Smith in the mid-2000s electrified the competition. His career took him to the Sydney Roosters, a stint in England with Wigan, and finally a return to the Dragons. Known for his larger-than-life personality, Riddell transitioned seamlessly into media after hanging up his boots, bringing the same direct and colorful insight to commentary that he showed on the field.

Mark was born in 1980, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
