A tough, dependable Australian prop whose workmanlike career was defined by grit, grand final glory with the Rabbitohs, and over 150 NRL appearances.
Mark Nicholls embodied the unsung hero of rugby league. The Sydney-born forward didn't burst onto the scene as a teenage prodigy; instead, he built his NRL career through persistence and hard-nosed effort. After early stints with the Canberra Raiders and Brisbane Broncos where playing time was scarce, he found a home at the Melbourne Storm in their feeder system, learning the disciplined structure that defines the club. His big break came with a move to the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2018. At Souths, Nicholls became a crucial part of the engine room, a reliable middle forward who made his tackles, hit the line hard, and did the tough carries that allow star players to shine. His career pinnacle arrived in 2021 when he came off the bench in South Sydney's NRL Grand Final appearance. While the premiership ring eluded him that night, his journey from fringe player to grand finalist stands as a testament to resilience in a brutal sport.
