A versatile Italian road captain whose tactical brain and selfless work ethic powered champions across a 15-year professional career.
Marco Marcato won a stage at the 2012 Tour of Britain. Hailing from San Donà di Piave, he turned professional in 2005 and became known for sharp race intelligence and calm under pressure. His career was defined by selfless work as a road captain, most notably during his tenure with UAE Team Emirates where he was a key lieutenant. He occasionally surfaced for his own victories. After a solid decade and a half in the pro ranks, his 2020 retirement marked the end of an era for a rider valued in team success and peer respect.

The first digital natives. Grew up with the internet, came of age during 9/11 and the 2008 crash. Highly educated, deeply indebted, slower to marry and buy houses. Redefined work, identity, and what it means to be an adult.
Marco was born in 1984, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
