A fiercely independent Canadian filmmaker who chronicles LGBTQ+ stories and subcultures with a raw, empathetic documentary lens.
Operating far from the mainstream studio system, Malcolm Ingram has built a career on cinematic curiosity and community. His early work, like the comedy 'Drawing Flies,' showed his indie spirit, but he found his true voice in documentary. Ingram's films are deep dives into specific, often marginalized worlds, told with a fan's enthusiasm and a journalist's eye. He gained significant attention with 'Small Town Gay Bar,' a poignant look at LGBTQ+ life in the American South, and later with 'Continental,' a vibrant history of the famed New York bathhouse and disco. His passion project, the 'God Save the Queen' series of films, exhaustively explores the legacy of the controversial band and its frontman, Freddy Mercury. Working frequently with producer Kevin Smith, who distributes his films through SModcast Pictures, Ingram's work is defined by its personal stake and its commitment to preserving underground histories.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Malcolm was born in 1968, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
