The lead voice of 5 Seconds of Summer who helped steer a group of Sydney teens into a global pop-rock phenomenon with billions of streams.
Luke Hemmings started as a teenager posting cover songs on YouTube from his bedroom in Sydney, a pursuit that seemed like a hobby until it unexpectedly ignited a worldwide career. In 2011, he and his school friends formed 5 Seconds of Summer, with Hemmings as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist. The band’s rise was meteoric; they leveraged a massive online fanbase into sold-out world tours, evolving from support act for One Direction to headlining stadiums in their own right. Hemmings’ clear, earnest vocals became the signature sound for hits like 'She Looks So Perfect' and 'Youngblood,' the latter showcasing a darker, more mature rock direction. Beyond the band's colossal commercial success, Hemmings embarked on a solo project during the pandemic, releasing 'When Facing the Things We Turn Away From,' an introspective album that revealed the thoughtful artist behind the pop-rock persona.
