A tenacious English runner who battled back from cruel injury luck to seize global silver on the track.
Lisa Dobriskey’s career in middle-distance running was defined by grit and graceful power, punctuated by moments of brilliant triumph and frustrating setbacks. Emerging as a fierce competitor on the domestic scene, she announced herself to the world by winning Commonwealth gold in Melbourne in 2006. Her elegant, strong-finishing style made her a consistent force, culminating in a dramatic silver medal at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, where she surged through the field in the final straight. Just as she seemed poised for Olympic glory, a series of injuries, including a serious stress fracture and a freak accident involving a surgical glove left inside her during an operation, derailed her momentum. Dobriskey’s resilience in repeatedly returning to elite competition, including a fourth-place finish at the 2012 London Olympics, cemented her reputation as one of Britain’s most determined athletes.
