A commanding Australian netball goalkeeper whose fierce defensive prowess and inspirational leadership anchored a golden era for the Diamonds.
Laura Geitz was the immovable object at the heart of Australian netball's dominance in the 2010s. With a combination of athleticism, tactical genius, and an intimidating on-court presence, she redefined the goalkeeper position. Hailing from rural Queensland, Geitz's rise was swift; she debuted for the national team, the Diamonds, in 2008. But it was as captain from 2014 that she cemented her legacy, leading with a calm authority that belied her fierce competitive nature. Under her stewardship, Australia won the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold in a thrilling final and the 2015 Netball World Cup. Domestically, she was the bedrock of the Queensland Firebirds, captaining them to two ANZ Championship titles. Geitz's game was built on relentless pressure, spectacular intercepts, and an uncanny ability to disrupt the best shooters in the world, making her the cornerstone of every team she led.
