A hurdler from the British Virgin Islands who channeled profound personal loss into becoming his nation's first-ever world champion in any sport.
Kyron McMaster's story is one of staggering resilience. Growing up on Tortola, his raw talent in the 400m hurdles was nurtured by his coach, the much-loved track figure Xavier 'Dag' Samuels. In 2017, with McMaster emerging as a global prospect, Samuels tragically drowned in Hurricane Irma. Devastated but determined, McMaster chose to continue, running not just for himself but for his mentor's legacy. The very next year, he blazed to Commonwealth Games gold, setting a games record. His career became a testament to focused power, culminating in a dominant victory at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest. That win, achieved with a masterful display of rhythm and strength, was more than a medal; it was a historic moment that placed the British Virgin Islands firmly on the world sporting map.

Born into smartphones, social media, and school shootings. The most diverse generation in history. Pragmatic about money, fluid about identity, anxious about the climate. They do not remember a world before the internet.
Kyron was born in 1997, placing them squarely in the Generation Z. The events that shaped this generation — social media, climate anxiety, and a pandemic — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
