A foundational voice of K-pop's second generation who navigated industry upheaval to forge a defiantly independent path as a solo rock artist and entrepreneur.
Kim Jae-joong began his career at the epicenter of the Korean Wave, but his story is one of artistic rebellion and reinvention. He debuted as Hero Jaejoong, a main vocalist of TVXQ, a group that achieved stratospheric success in Asia and helped define the modern idol blueprint. In 2009, he became a central figure in a seismic industry event, leaving the group with two other members in a high-profile contract dispute. This led to the formation of JYJ, a trio that challenged agency norms and faced broadcast bans in South Korea, yet still sold out arenas worldwide. Undeterred, Jae-joong boldly pivoted his musical identity. As a solo artist, he shed the pure pop sound for rock and metal influences, writing, producing, and screaming on tracks that shocked former fans. He also built a parallel career as a respected actor in television and film. In 2023, he took full control by founding his own agency, Inkode, cementing his role as a strategic architect of his own multifaceted career.

The first digital natives. Grew up with the internet, came of age during 9/11 and the 2008 crash. Highly educated, deeply indebted, slower to marry and buy houses. Redefined work, identity, and what it means to be an adult.
Kim was born in 1986, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
