A steady-handed political architect who shaped modern Saint Lucia through two separate terms as prime minister, focusing on education and social reform.
Kenny Anthony's path to leadership was carved in academia before politics. With a doctorate in law, he lectured at the University of the West Indies, bringing a scholarly depth to his later governance. First elected prime minister in 1997, he led Saint Lucia for nine consecutive years, a period marked by significant investment in education and public sector modernization. After a five-year stint as opposition leader, he returned to power in 2011, tasked with steering the country through global economic turbulence. His second term grappled with fiscal challenges, but his tenure overall is remembered for its stability and a deliberate, sometimes stern, commitment to institutional development. Even after electoral defeat, his influence within the Saint Lucia Labour Party remained substantial for years.
1946–1964
The largest generation in history at the time. Shaped by postwar prosperity, the Vietnam War, the sexual revolution, and Watergate. They questioned every institution their parents built — then ran them.
Kenny was born in 1951, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
