The powerhouse drummer whose soaring vocals turned a power ballad about his sister into one of rock's most enduring anthems.
Kelly Keagy carved his place in rock history from behind the drum kit, but it was his voice that launched Night Ranger into the stratosphere. Joining the band in its early incarnation as Ranger, Keagy was the engine room, providing a solid, driving beat for their melodic hard rock. His role expanded when he stepped to the microphone to sing 'Sister Christian,' a song he wrote about his younger sister's transition into adulthood. The ballad became a massive, era-defining hit, its emotional delivery and Keagy's clear tenor making it a staple of 80s radio and film. As a co-vocalist alongside bassist Jack Blades, Keagy created a dynamic vocal blend that powered other hits like 'Sentimental Street' and 'Four in the Morning.' His dual-threat capability as both a foundational drummer and a lead vocalist made him indispensable to the band's signature sound, ensuring their music endured long past the heyday of arena rock.
