A Louisiana Congresswoman who turned profound personal tragedy into a mission of public service, making history as her state's first Republican woman in the U.S. House.
Julia Letlow's path to Congress was forged in heartbreak and a deep sense of duty. A native of Monroe, Louisiana, with a Ph.D. in communication, she built a career in higher education administration, most recently as the director of external affairs at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Her life changed when her husband, Congressman-elect Luke Letlow, died from COVID-19 complications in December 2020, just before he was to take office. In the wake of this tragedy, Julia Letlow decided to run for his vacant seat in a special election, framing her campaign as a continuation of their shared vision for rural Louisiana. She won in a landslide in March 2021. In Washington, she has focused on issues central to her district: agriculture, flood control, and expanding rural broadband access, serving on the powerful House Appropriations Committee. Her presence is a poignant reminder of the pandemic's human cost, but her work is forward-looking, establishing her as a thoughtful and determined voice for her constituents.

The first digital natives. Grew up with the internet, came of age during 9/11 and the 2008 crash. Highly educated, deeply indebted, slower to marry and buy houses. Redefined work, identity, and what it means to be an adult.
Julia was born in 1982, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
