A versatile bassist and digital pioneer who built a forward-thinking jazz label from the ground up in the internet's early days.
Joseph Patrick Moore operates from the low end, both in music and in business, with a quiet determination. The Knoxville-born musician cut his teeth on the road and in sessions, his bass lines providing foundation for an eclectic roster from jazz guitarist Earl Klugh to The Police's Stewart Copeland. He is a player's player, respected for his groove and adaptability across jazz, fusion, and rock. But his most lasting impact may be as an entrepreneur. In 2003, long before streaming became the norm, Moore co-founded Blue Canoe Records, boldly declaring it the internet's first all-digital independent jazz label. This wasn't just a distribution shift; it was a philosophical bet on the future, giving artists a direct, niche platform free from physical media constraints. As a composer and producer, Moore has released a steady stream of his own genre-blending work, embodying the DIY spirit and technical curiosity that has kept him relevant for decades.
