An Argentine racing maestro who conquered touring cars and endurance racing, becoming a national hero with a historic Le Mans victory.
José María 'Pechito' López carved a path from the karting tracks of Argentina to the pinnacle of global motorsport, proving his versatility and relentless speed across disciplines. After a promising single-seater career in Europe, he found his true dominance in the World Touring Car Championship, where he unleashed a blistering three-year reign of terror. Driving for Citroën, López secured three consecutive world titles from 2014 to 2016, his aggressive yet precise style making him nearly unbeatable. Never one to rest, he then masterfully transitioned to the World Endurance Championship with Toyota. There, he added two more world crowns and, in 2021, achieved a lifelong dream: winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That victory made him only the second Argentine driver ever to triumph at the Circuit de la Sarthe, placing his name alongside his country's racing legend, Juan Manuel Fangio, in the national consciousness.
