A Norwegian crime novelist who built a global empire with the brooding, alcoholic detective Harry Hole, selling tens of millions of books worldwide.
Before he became Scandinavia's most successful literary export, Jo Nesbø lived several lives. He was a professional soccer player, a stockbroker, and the frontman for the popular Norwegian pop band Di Derre. It was on a long flight during his music career that he began writing what would become his first novel, 'The Bat,' introducing the world to Inspector Harry Hole. The series, set in a rain-slicked Oslo, combined intricate, dark plots with deep character study, propelling Nesbø to international fame. His standalone novels, like 'The Son' and 'Headhunters,' further demonstrated his mastery of suspense. Nesbø's success lies in his ability to weave social commentary into pulse-pounding narratives, creating crime fiction that feels both wildly entertaining and psychologically substantial.

Jo was born in 1960, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
