A powerful Finnish winger whose imposing frame and leadership defined a long career split between North American dreams and European homecoming.
Jesse Joensuu played 244 NHL games for the New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers. Drafted in 2004, the 6-foot-4 Finnish power forward used his size to battle along the boards and screen goaltenders. His heavy shot and willingness to engage physically showed potential, but he could not secure a permanent NHL role. Returning to Finland in 2013, Joensuu joined Porin Ässät and transformed from a skilled import into a cornerstone leader. He wore the captain's 'C' with quiet determination, guiding younger players and winning the Finnish Liiga championship in 2013. His professional path began in his hometown of Pori, where he developed through the junior ranks before crossing the Atlantic. Joensuu finished his career with Ässät in 2021, having played 14 professional seasons across Finland, North America, and Sweden. His impact in the Liiga endures through his physical style and leadership.

Jesse was born in 1987, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
