He resurrected a moribund college football program at California, turning it into a consistent winner and a factory for NFL talent.
Jeff Tedford's coaching journey is a masterclass in program building. A former quarterback at Fresno State and a brief CFL player, he first made his name as a brilliant offensive mind at Oregon, where he helped develop quarterbacks like Akili Smith and Joey Harrington. His true legacy, however, was forged in Berkeley. Taking over a California Golden Bears team that had posted a single winning season in the previous eight years, Tedford engineered one of the most dramatic turnarounds in college football. He instilled a hard-nosed, pro-style offense and a culture of accountability, leading Cal to eight bowl games in his eleven seasons. His teams were known for their offensive fireworks and for producing a remarkable number of NFL players, including Aaron Rodgers and Marshawn Lynch. After health issues led to a hiatus, he returned to his alma mater, Fresno State, and promptly led them to a school-record 12 wins in 2018, proving his blueprint for success was timeless.

Jeff was born in 1961, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
