A ferocious, three-weight world champion from Sydney whose relentless pressure and iron chin made him one of Australia's most beloved boxing heroes.
Jeff Fenech exploded onto the world boxing scene with a ferocity that earned him the nickname 'The Marrickville Mauler.' Trained by Johnny Lewis, he fought with a swarming, non-stop aggression, overwhelming opponents with volume punching and an almost supernatural ability to absorb punishment. He captured his first world title, the IBF bantamweight crown, in just his seventh professional fight. He then bulldozed his way through higher divisions, adding the WBC super-bantamweight and featherweight titles in quick succession. His career is marked by epic battles, particularly a brutal trilogy with Ghana's great Azumah Nelson, which included a controversial draw many felt Fenech won. Injuries and wars in the ring took their toll, but his legacy as a fearless, all-action champion who wore his heart on his sleeve remains untarnished in Australian sports lore.

Jeff was born in 1964, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
