Biography

Jeff Agoos was the quintessential glue guy of American soccer's modern era, a left-footed defender whose intelligence and consistency made him indispensable. While not the flashiest player, his career is a map of American soccer's rise. He earned 134 caps for the U.S. national team, playing in two World Cups, but his club legacy is even more staggering. Agoos was a foundational winner in Major League Soccer, capturing a record five MLS Cup championships with D.C. United and the San Jose Earthquakes. His 2001 season, where he was named MLS Defender of the Year, epitomized his leadership from the back. After retiring, he moved into front-office roles, helping to build Sporting Kansas City, and was rightfully inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2009.

Generation X

1965–1980

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.

Jeff was born in 1968, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
