The drummer who inherited rock's most thunderous legacy and earned the right to sit behind his father's kit for Led Zeppelin's reunions.
Jason Bonham drummed for the Led Zeppelin reunion concert at London's O2 Arena in 2007, chosen by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones. Born in 1966, he appeared as a child on the cover of his father John Bonham's snare drum case. The teenage Jason dedicated himself to the drums after his father's death in 1980, not to copy but to grasp the complex power of Bonzo's style. He formed the band Bonham in the late 1980s and worked as a sought-after session player. The 2007 performance earned critical and fan acclaim. Beyond that, he leads his own tribute experiences and plays in the hard rock supergroup Black Country Communion. Jason Bonham built a respected career while carrying a legacy uniquely his own.
1965–1980
The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Jason was born in 1966, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
