A pivotal political figure from Arunachal Pradesh who navigated India's complex tribal and national politics to briefly lead his frontier state.
Jarbom Gamlin's life was steeped in the unique political tapestry of Arunachal Pradesh, India's remote northeastern frontier. A lawyer by training from the indigenous Galo tribe, he entered politics with a deep understanding of both local tribal dynamics and the machinations of New Delhi. His career was built within the Indian National Congress, where he held significant portfolios like Home and Finance, wielding influence often from behind the scenes. Gamlin's moment at the helm came in 2011 following a political crisis, when he was appointed the state's sixth Chief Minister. His tenure, however, was brief and turbulent, lasting just over three months before he lost a vote of confidence, a testament to the volatile, coalition-driven nature of the state's assembly. Beyond his short stint as CM, Gamlin is remembered as a forceful advocate for Arunachal's development and a key negotiator in the delicate balance between central authority and tribal autonomy. His sudden death from a heart attack in 2014 cut short the career of a seasoned political operator.

The largest generation in history at the time. Shaped by postwar prosperity, the Vietnam War, the sexual revolution, and Watergate. They questioned every institution their parents built — then ran them.
Jarbom was born in 1961, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
