From teen idol as James Diamond to a mature musician steering the successful reunion of the pop band Big Time Rush.
James Maslow stepped into the spotlight as a teenager, landing the role of the confident, sometimes arrogant James Diamond on Nickelodeon's 'Big Time Rush.' The show, about a boy band's formation, blurred lines with reality as Maslow and his co-stars actually became the musical group Big Time Rush, releasing albums and touring to screaming fans. When the show ended in 2013, Maslow deliberately worked to shed the pure pop image. He competed on 'Dancing with the Stars,' took on dramatic acting roles in films, and began releasing solo music that leaned into soulful pop and dance. Yet, his defining chapter in recent years has been the full-circle reunion of Big Time Rush. As an adult, he helped orchestrate the band's return, not as a nostalgia act, but as a group with creative control, launching a successful tour and new music that connected with their original fans who had grown up alongside them.

James was born in 1990, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
