A defining leader of Morning Musume who guided Japan's top idol group through its peak and later reinvented herself in edgier musical projects.
Hitomi Yoshizawa stepped into the bright, demanding spotlight of Morning Musume as a teenager and quickly became its steady, smiling backbone. Joining in 2000, she weathered the group's constant member turnover, eventually being named leader in 2005 during one of its most commercially successful eras. Known for her strong, clear vocals and mature, calming presence, she provided stability and helped mentor younger members. After her graduation in 2007, Yoshizawa shattered the pure-idol image by co-founding Hangry & Angry, a punk-inspired duo with former bandmate Rika Ishikawa that embraced a deliberately dark, gothic aesthetic. This pivot revealed an artist eager to explore her own creative boundaries, leading to further ventures like the rock band Abcho and reunions with fellow alumni. Her career traces the arc of a pop culture professional who mastered the idol system and then chose to redefine it on her own terms.

Hitomi was born in 1985, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
